Library and Archives Service
If you would like to view a rare book or an item from the special collections, you will need to make your request through the library catalogue (Library Search).
Bangor University staff, students, and other registered library users such as Linc y Gogledd and Sconul members (provided they have already created a library password) can make their requests by following the process below.
External researchers and readers who do not have a Bangor University library card will need to visit the Archives to register for an External Library and Archives Card. This will enable them to place requests through the library catalogue. When they register, they must bring two documents with them - one to prove identity and one to prove their address.
All visitors to the Archives will be expected to complete a "User Registration Form" on their first visit.
Readers do not need an External Library and Archives Card to access reference books, catalogues or online resources in the Archives reading room.
To make a request, please follow this procedure:
Search for your item in the library catalogue, ensure that you search under the Bangor University Library Collections scope. When you find your item listed, click on the “Available at: Archives… “ link:
In order to request a book, you will need to sign in to the library catalogue:
Once signed in, the option to Place a hold request should appear. Click on the link:
You now need to set the Material Type to book, select a time and date for when you would like to view the item and finally click Request to submit your request:
The item will be made available to readers to consult in the University Archives Department’s Reading Room.
Rare Books will be made available at 11:00am and 2:00pm each day. However, under special circumstances, urgent requests can be made to see items by phoning Shan Robinson on 2913 or 3276
It is possible to request photocopies of these materials. Library Staff can make photocopies on your behalf provided the request complies with copyright legislation. This service however is dependent on the size and condition of the material.
The price for photocopying is 40p per page for students and 45p per page for non-students.
