Can I request a digital scan of journal articles or book chapters through the Library's Scan and Deliver service during the Coronavirus crisis?

The library is offering a TRIAL Service called ‘Scan and Deliver’ which is open to staff and research postgraduates only during the Coronavirus crisis.

If you are not able to visit the library to take advantage of our ‘Click and Collect’ service but need digital access to a book chapter or a journal article that we hold in print only, we will scan the document and deliver the pdf to your email. Please note that to comply with Copyright law, we can only supply one chapter from a book and only one article per volume part or issue of a journal.

These scanned items should be for your ‘personal research’ and should not be for shared with colleagues or with students.  Scans for teaching can be requested via the online reading list service.

This service is quite labour intensive so please allow up to 2 weeks for your scan to be delivered– you can pre-check whether the book you want is covered by the CLA Licence.  Click on the image below and insert the isbn –to see if scans are permitted.

Requesting a scan is easy.  Sign into the library catalogue and find the item record. If you are requesting a chapter scan from a book, open the full record of the item to reveal the ‘Request a digitised chapter’ link – next to the ‘Place a hold request (reserve a book)’ link:

If you are requesting a specific volume in a series of books, select the ‘Request a digitised chapter’ link adjacent to the volume you require:

If you are requesting a journal article from a journal we hold in print format but not electronically, select the ‘Request a digitised article’ link adjacent to the volume/issue/part/number you require:

Click on the link and then complete the form.

It is very important that you input the chapter / article details including the title, author and page numbers if you have them. You can add a comment in the comment field if necessary.

Please read the copyright declaration and tick the box to confirm that you agree to abide by the restrictions and click ‘REQUEST’.

If you are an undergraduate or taught postgraduate needing to scan a book chapter, journal article or any item from our reference collections, you can book a study space, with access to photocopying equipment, though our Reserve and Read service.
